How to Sort Media in Filio Web App

The Sort Media feature in Filio helps you organize and view your project media based on your preferred criteria, such as date, tags, elevation, AI captions, or weather data. Sorting makes it easier to review large data collections, track site progress, or prepare reports efficiently.

How to Sort Media in Filio Web App

Step 1 – Open Filio Web App and Select a Project

To sort media in the Filio Web App, open the project you want to review and use the media panel on the left side of the screen. Your photos and videos appear beside the map view or plan sheet view, so you can reorganize records quickly before reviewing progress, checking field conditions, or building reports. If you also need plan context, see What Is a Plan Sheet in Filio and How Do I Add or Manage One?.

Step 2 – Open the Sort By Menu

At the top of the media list, click Sort By next to the filters. This opens the sorting menu, where you can reorder media based on the field that matters most for your review. If you need to narrow results before sorting, see How to Filter Media Using the Area Filter in Filio Web App.

Step 3 – Choose the Sorting Field You Need

From the dropdown menu, choose the field you want to sort by. Filio lets you organize media using common review fields and field-documentation details, which is useful when you need to find records quickly or group similar site conditions before sharing updates.

You can sort by:

Date & Time

Description

Taken By

Tags

Labels

Elevation

GPS Precision

Weather Condition

Weather Temperature

Wind Speed

Video Transcription

AI Caption

For team workflows, sorting works especially well after you standardize project organization with How to Create and Manage Groups in Filio. For deeper Filio workflow context, review how to filter media using the area filter in Filio Web App, how to add annotations and tags to photos in the Filio app.

Step 4 – Set Ascending or Descending Order

Choose Ascending to sort from A to Z or oldest to newest, or choose Descending to sort from Z to A or newest to oldest. Click Sort to apply the setting. Your media list updates immediately based on the selected field and order, which helps when you want to review a timeline, compare similar records, or prepare report-ready documentation.

Best Practices for Sorting Media in Filio Web App

Combine sorting with filters such as tags, AI captions, or timeline tools to review project media more precisely and find documentation faster. Sorting is most useful when you need to answer a specific project question quickly, such as what happened first, which user captured the media, or which records match the same weather or labeling pattern.

  • Use AI Caption sorting to group similar visual records quickly when reviewing recurring conditions, materials, or inspection sequences.
  • Sort by Weather Condition, Weather Temperature, or Elevation when you need stronger environmental or site-context documentation.
  • Sort by Taken By, Tags, or Labels when multiple team members contribute media and you need faster handoff or QA review.
  • If you are preparing deliverables, pair sorted media with How to Add and Manage Comments in Filio Reports for clearer project reporting.
  • Only synced media appears in web-app sorting results, so recently captured mobile media may not appear until the upload is complete.
  • If you switch projects or refresh the view, confirm that your sort and filter settings still match the records you want to review.
  • When working across layered plan views, review What Are Layers in Filio and How Do I Add One to a Project? to keep map and plan context organized while sorting.
