What is a Geofence in Filio, and How Do I Add One to a Project

Curious about Geofences in the Filio Web App? This guide explains what a Geofence is and walks you through adding one to your project.

Understanding and Adding Geofences

Learn what a Geofence is and follow these steps to add one to a project in the Filio Web App.

What is a Geofence?

A Geofence in the Filio Web App defines a virtual boundary on your project map. It helps in two key ways:
– Tracking media: Any media captured in the mobile app is tagged within this area.
– Clock-in/out control: Employees must be physically within the geofence boundary (on-site) to clock in or out.

Method 1: Adding a Geofence During Project Creation

Use this method if you’re setting up a new project and want to define a geofence from the start.

Step 1: Access the Map & Plans Section

– During project creation, navigate to the “Map & Plans” tab.
– Locate the “Draw Geofence” option (usually in the map tools menu) and click “Start Drawing”.
– Ensure your project map is loaded with the correct location data.

Step 2: Draw the Geofence

– Click on the map to place markers, forming the corners of your geofence.
– Add at least 3 points to create a polygon. Drag markers to adjust the shape as needed.

Step 2: Draw the Geofence

– Click on the map to place markers, forming the corners of your geofence.
– Add at least 3 points to create a polygon. Drag markers to adjust the shape as needed.

Method 2: Adding a Geofence to an Existing Project

Use this method if you want to add a geofence to a project that’s already created.

Step 1: Open the Map on the Project Page

– Go to the project page, then scroll to the “Map” panel.
– In the bottom-left corner, find the map controls and click “Draw Geofence (Boundary)”.
– Select “Start Drawing” to begin.
– Verify that the map displays the correct project site.

Step 2: Draw the Geofence

– Click on the map to place markers around the site.
– Add at least 3 points to create a polygon. Drag markers to adjust the shape as needed.

Step 3: Submit the Geofence

– Review the drawn geofence to ensure it covers the intended area.
– Click “Submit Geofence” to save. If needed, use the “Reset” option to redraw.
– The geofence can be edited later in the project settings under the “Map & Plans” section.

Tips and Warnings

  • Use multiple points for precise site boundaries.
  • Double-click a point to remove it.
  • Employees must be inside the geofence to clock in/out using the Filio mobile app.
  • Ensure the geofence covers the correct area to avoid tracking errors.
  • Edit the geofence in project settings if changes are needed.
