Understanding and Adding Layers
Learn what Layers are and follow these steps to add a custom layer to a project in the Filio Web App.
What are Layers?
Layers in Filio are custom map files (GeoJSON, KML, KMZ) that let you overlay additional information on your project map. They are project-specific (not shared with other projects) and can be switched on/off in map views. Layers are useful for adding external data such as zoning maps, boundaries, or detailed site layouts.
Step 1: Open the Layer Menu
From the project’s location page or the final step of creating a project, hover your mouse or tap Roadmap in the lower-left corner of the map. Then, from the menu, select Custom Layer.
Step 2: Upload Your File
In the Custom Layer popup:
– Drag & drop your file, or
– Click to select a file from your computer (Supported formats: GeoJSON, KML, KMZ (limit ≤ 3MB for KML/KMZ)).
Step 3: Apply the Layer
Once uploaded, your file appears in the list. Select it (a yellow frame highlights the chosen file) and click Apply.
Tips and Warnings
- Use Layers to display custom geographic boundaries, utility maps, or site plans that support your geofence and location setup.
- Ensure your file is in GeoJSON, KML, or KMZ format.
